Active citizens bring about a positive difference in the world
- the ways people support each other and contribute within communities
- how humans respond to change and adversity
- how we can use our communication skills to make a positive difference.
Grade 3 students were asked to imagine that they are a volunteer by using the information gained from ringing a chosen community organisation. Students decided to call the head office of the Salvation Army and spoke to the Education Manager. Other students rang and emailed the local branches of CFA, SES, Food is Free Laneway, Eureka Mums and relatives that worked in the school canteen. This experience focused on student agency.
Students decided to demonstrate their knowledge of the benefits volunteering in community organisations by creating videos, scripts for interviews, emails and diary enteries.
